During our stay in Chiang Mai, we enjoyed a wonderful evening at The House by Ginger, and it quickly became one of our favourite dining experiences in the city. From the moment we stepped inside, we were captivated by the restaurant’s beautiful décor and unique atmosphere. The elegant blend of traditional Thai charm and contemporary style creates a warm, welcoming setting that feels both sophisticated and relaxed. The food was absolutely outstanding. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with authentic Thai flavours. From the perfectly prepared mains to the delicious desserts, everything was cooked to perfection using fresh, high-quality ingredients. The flavours were balanced, vibrant, and memorable. The desserts were a particular highlight. We tried the Thai Tea Tiramisu infused with Mekhong Thai Rum, which was a creative and delicious twist on a classic favourite. The Sago with Coconut Milk and Longan was equally impressive—light, refreshing, and the perfect way to end the meal. The service throughout the evening was exceptional. The staff were friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about ensuring guests have a great experience. Nothing was too much trouble, and their recommendations were excellent. The House by Ginger is much more than just a restaurant—it’s a complete dining experience that combines outstanding food, beautiful surroundings, and first-class hospitality. We left thoroughly impressed and would not hesitate to return. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an unforgettable meal in Chiang Mai.
The best meal at Chiang Mai was at this restaurant. They have numerous accolades and I can see why. Ambience wise, it's housed within two Thai-styled mansions. Its cozy, great for gatherings and to good if you wanna impress. I ordered a mixed seafood curry served in a coconut. I didnt know that coconut flesh would go so well in curry! The curry reminds me of the chili crab sauce that is famous in Singapore. There was generous servings of fresh prawns, fish slices and squid. I also order a duck stew. It came with two drumsticks and a decadent sauce and potato. I had organic black rice to go with the curry and sauce. It was such a good combination. The rice is slightly harder than typical white rice and the sauces softens it will maintaining the slight al dente feel. Ill definitely dine there again in a heartbeat.
This is a great place for Thai food close to old town. Very clean good quality restaurant. The appetizer plate we had was amazing. 4 stars because the 2 duck dishes were not great. I had res curry with peking duck, and the curry was great, but the duck was super tough and tasted pretty bad. Similarly for the second duck dish, very tough.
Michelin? I don’t get it. Old Fashioned cocktail tasted like sweet water with a hint of bourbon “flavor”. Nice presentation but liquid in the glass was basically clear. Spring rolls were ok but we have better at our favorite hole in the wall pho spot in Cleveland, Ohio. Standout was the scallop appetizer but still nothing amazing, rather bland. Sirloin entree looked amazing but was bland and tough, even for sirloin. My Beef in “curry” sauce with side of rice was so bland and liquidy. And it came out cold and 10 minutes before my son’s entree. You would think with all the available ingredients here if would be more flavorful. I’ve honestly had better meals at all inclusive resorts. Stick to the street food over this place if you’re purely looking for a foodie experience. Service was great and the ambiance is comfortable. This was recommended by our hotel surprisingly. Felt very much like a tourist trap.
We went back three times in four days which should tell you something. We ordered multiple drinks and cocktails and all were excellent. Our favourite was the pomelo salad and the seafood in the coconut shell. The appetizer platter was also very good. Service was excellent too and the setting was charming. While expensive by Chiang Mai standards, we found it good value compared to similar places in Singapore. Book ahead to avoid disappointment but if you have to walk in, go close to opening time. Also dinner was more atmospheric than lunch. Lunch was relaxed though and the place was not as crowded
