Matsusaka Tei

This place clearly knows how to play the high-end Japanese dining game, the kind where tweezers, smoke, and dramatic plating do most of the talking. The setting is pleasant and polished, but don’t expect a jaw-drop moment. It’s nice… just not pause-and-take-a-photo-of-the-room nice. The real story is the fixed menu, which turned out to be a surprise, not necessarily the good kind. We were served a parade of meat cuts I would probably never order on my own, each one prepared with impressive technique, precision, and a lot of theatrical flair. And to be fair, the chefs work hard. Every piece of meat has its own method, timing, and ritual. You can feel the effort and craftsmanship. But somewhere between the camera-ready presentation and the last bite, the flavors didn’t quite keep up with the visuals. This is one of those meals where your phone eats better than you do. Service, however, was genuinely excellent! Attentive, warm, and professional without being stiff. That part deserves real credit. Prices sit firmly at the high end, which would be easier to justify if the meat itself felt more special or indulgent. As it stands, it felt like paying premium prices for an experience that prioritizes concept and aesthetics over taste. Would I recommend it? Honestly… I’m on the fence. If you love culinary performances and Instagram moments, you might walk out happy. If you’re chasing unforgettable flavors, this one may leave you wondering what all the hype was about.

Staff are very hospitable, classic japanese woody decore that justify the price range. Wagyu beef quality is no doubt very good. However, pieces consumed seemed too expensive. Value for money wise, many choices in the Xinyi shopping precinct.

We had a great dining experience with Box. 箱子。it was our wedding anniversary and we didnt plan for this cos w did a walk in last min! Turns out that God has its plan. We were seated in a pte room with just the 2 of us with the most amazing waitress who grills every meat to perfection and she’s so hospitable too!

The review rating in Google Map is high (4.8) and the environment is cozy. I have high expectation and ordered two lunch sets. The service is excellent and the waiter grilled the beef for you professionally. However, the beef quality was below my expectation and the taste was so-so since the price was expensive. Honestly there are many grilled restaurants better than Matsusaka Tei. Not worth to pay a visit there.

You come here to enjoy the overpriced atmosphere, instead of the cooking technique or Wagyu quality. So sad and disappointed You can see lotta fascia and some hard parts in their Wagyu, which means low quality. The flavor of those Wagyu doesn’t include any aromas…. Thus I had to spit out most of them. They don’t even know how to marinate the meat, so the meat tastes more salty than Dead Sea …that’s super insane Especially in such high end restaurant Plz don’t come You fly to Japan for some regular shops is way much better than eating here spent more than 150USD for something lower than regular quality The best food here is the soup , fried rice, and the Japanese dessert, which is really sarcastic
