One Chun Cafe in Old Town, Phuket is set in a charming, very old building whose vintage ambience makes for a pleasant dining atmosphere. The cafe’s Michelin recognition clearly attracts a steady stream of visitors and tourists, and we sampled an extensive spread to see what the fuss was about. In total we tried 15 of the recommended dishes. Unfortunately, the overall impression was underwhelming. A handful of dishes showed clear care: some were well-seasoned and balanced, and a few plates surprised with nice textures and clean flavors. But most items felt merely competent rather than inspired. Flavors often landed safe and predictable, and there was a notable lack of the punch or inventiveness I expect from a place with Michelin attention. Presentation was tidy and consistent, yet rarely inventive; portion sizes were moderate. Service mirrored the food experience. Staff were polite and efficient, especially during busy periods, but interactions lacked warmth and the personal touches that turn a good meal into a memorable one. Value is mixed: you’re paying a premium compared with typical local spots, and while a few dishes feel worth the price, many do not. If you’re in Old Town and want a comfortable, atmospheric spot to try popular local plates, Wne Chun is worth visiting for the setting and a couple of standout items. If your priority is consistently exceptional food and memorable service, you may find the cafe falls short despite its reputation. No Cards accepted. ONLY CASH 🤯
The food was well worth trying. I ordered one of their signature dishes—yellow curry with fresh crab meat served with noodles. Although I requested a medium spice level, it was quite hot for my taste, so it’s worth being mindful of the spiciness when ordering. I also had a fried mushroom appetizer, which was enjoyable. The passion fruit juice stood out for its well-balanced flavor and creative combinations. Overall, the balance of flavors, particularly the spiciness, was impressive. The total bill was 660 baht.
It was my first time trying pineapple baked rice, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it was pretty good! The deep-fried prawns were nice and sweet, and while the meatballs were a bit spicy, they were still enjoyable. However, it’s tough to find kid-friendly meals here since almost everything is very aromatic and spicy—it would be great if they added a few milder options for children. The service was excellent, but be prepared for a 40-minute wait time!
We walked in during peak hours and were told there would be a 30 minute wait. However, the restaurant was very well organized and even had a comfortable waiting area for guests. They called us before the estimated waiting time was up, which was greatly appreciated. The food was absolutely outstanding. We ordered their signature Crab Meat with Yellow Curry served with noodles, as well as the Green Curry Chicken. Both dishes were packed with flavor, and the taste was exceptional from start to finish. Every bite showed why this restaurant has earned Michelin recognition. The service, organization, and food quality were all top notch. The Michelin accolade is fully justified, and this is a place I would happily recommend to anyone visiting Phuket Old Town. We will definitely be coming back on our next trip
13/6/26 - 4 stars A very famous restaurant with a long history of Michelin recommendation. Whilst it wasn't bad, I wouldn't say it's a must visit. Certainly, like many other similar famous places, it is much more expensive than other local restaurants. The quality of the food is overall quite good. The restaurant is comfortable and air-conditioned. The staff were a little distant at first, but, they did let us celebrate our friends birthday with external cake so thanks for that. Lemon sauce crab: S+, 8.5/10. Interesting combo and definitely one of the better dishes. Acidity and sweetness is well balanced. 390 baht is probably overall worth it. Crab curry: A, 7/10. Not memorable at all. Phuket style pork belly: SS, 9/10. We all enjoyed this dish which has a good hit of Chinese five spice. Not exactly what I would think of as a thai dish though. 285 baht isn't too bad. Roast duck salad: A, 7/10. Duck was a bit dry and tough but overall ok. This was quite spicy for us. 265 baht is not really worth it for just a few pieces of duck. Papaya salad: A, 7/10. Again, not memorable. 125 baht. Green curry: S, 8/10. Thinner than expected but very aromatic and spicy. 195 baht is alright. Milk teas were actually solid, though, a lot of ice for 95 baht.
