To be honest, I had high expectations for this place since it is part of the Michelin Guide in the Bib Gourmand category. Because of that, I think having certain expectations is completely normal. Let’s start with the place itself. It’s kind of a pop-up space with a casual and informal atmosphere and a nice vibe. One funny detail is that they seat you on office chairs with wheels. The service was friendly, but at the same time it felt very amateur. It looked like the whole team were students, with no management visible or checking what was happening on the floor. The restaurant is well known for their fresh, seasonal Thai fish, and they offer different varieties and sizes with separate prices alongside the main menu. However, on a Friday evening, before 6:30 they had already run out of at least 80% of the fish selection. They first showed me one fish, I agreed to order it, and then about ten minutes later the waitress came back to tell me they had sold it to another table. I have to admit I was quite upset and frustrated. At that point, there were hardly any fresh fish options left. The food wasn’t bad, but it was far from remarkable. It certainly wasn’t the kind of meal that stays in your memory as a foodie experience. I definitely won’t be coming back, and I can’t recommend it. Honestly, I don’t understand how Michelin has this restaurant in the Bib Gourmand selection.
Its a great restaurant, which had a lot of meat these few days here, refreshing to change the meal to seafood or fish. The pomelo salad with fish is super refreshing which must order for sure. Next is the yellow curry fish despite the waitress doesnt mentioned as recommendation dishes but fellow friends visit here mention must try that one which is served the fame and must order. Next will be thai crab omelette and grilled fish, the sauce for the fish is definitely refreshing and the fish is surprisingly fresh and tender with retain of sweetness, despite there shouldnt be any seas nearby. Its a great meal and would love to come back to try other dishes.
Great Thai food, made and tasting as these dishes should. The service was very professional. The lighs was a bit too bright for my liking but that's an individual thing. Highly recommended!
This place is famous for its grilled fish. It’s fresh and definitely a must order here. As for dessert , go for their mango sorbet that’s 100% all natural with no artificial coloring. The tom ka soup is “refreshing” and worth ordering. Omelette crab is small portion suitable for 2 person sharing Has indoor and outdoor seatings. Credit card accepted but with 3% additional charges. English menu available. Staff is able to converse in English well.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I visited Maadae Slow Fish Kitchen on a Thursday lunchtime and it turned out to be a great find in Chiang Mai. The space is calm and relaxed, with a simple, modern feel. Lots of natural light and small details that make it feel considered without trying too hard. I had a Thai milk tea with coconut milk and asked for no sugar. I liked that they don’t use additives or overly sweet mixes. It felt clean and natural, which fits well with their focus on quality ingredients and sustainable fishing. For food, I went for the broccoli fried rice and a fried whole fish with garlic from the pop-up menu. Both were really good. The rice was light but full of flavour, and the fish was fresh, crispy, and cooked just right. The staff were friendly, attentive, and spoke excellent English, which made everything easy. It’s the kind of place that feels quietly special. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for something fresh, thoughtful, and a bit different from the usual spots.
