Went to Umeshuthai for a romantic birthday dinner with my wife and it was exactly the kind of place you want for a quiet, memorable night out. This a Japanese restaurant and umeshu (plum wine) bar right on Sukhumvit Road, which makes it feel more unique. The vibe is cozy, calm, and softly lit, with lovely scents, interesting decor, and a warm atmosphere that suits couples or small groups. There’s also additional seating upstairs, so they could handle larger groups as well. Service was excellent throughout, as the staff were attentive without hovering, and the team added thoughtful touches like complimentary hand towels, small extra bites, and tasting drinks. Everyone was friendly, polite, and genuinely welcoming. We started with appetisers including salmon sashimi and salmon on crackers, plus green tea and miso soup. For mains, the Aburi Salmon Unagi Roll was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, an impressive mix of complementary flavours that totally worked. We also ordered the Omakase Sushi Set and every piece was fresh, satisfying, and balanced. To finish it off, the staff brought out a complimentary birthday cheesecake and sang Happy Birthday, which made the whole evening feel special. It’s a bit pricier than average, but you’re paying for quality food, top-level service, and a great location. Highly recommended for a romantic date or a small group of 3–4 friends. Passed by the restaurant during a walk and read favorable reviews, so decided to give the restaurant a chance. The decor is beautiful and feels like being in Japan. There are tons of flowers and wall paintings. The staff were friendly and welcoming. There is also a display case showcasing different types and grades of Wagyu. I decided to order the Wagyu Gokujou set so I could sample three different types of Japanese Wagyu beef. I was given a welcome shot that was tasty. I waited a decent amount of time for the Wagyu set, despite the restaurant not being busy. I was the only customer inside. The presentation of the set included wooden labels to distinguish each type of beef. The beef was cooked medium-rare, as I specified. Each type of Wagyu was cold, like it was cooked a while before being served. The mixed vegetables were lukewarm, while the baked potato was extremely hot. I mentioned that the beef was cold to the waitress. She mentioned that each items is cooked separately after going to speak with someone in the back. Additionally, she apologized for the beef being cold. In short, had the Wagyu come out warm, I would have easily given the restaurant 5 stars. Serving cold Wagyu highly disappointed me and negatively impacted my perception of the restaurant.

I went for the umeshu buffet, and it was definitely worth it. The food is a bit pricey, but the quality is excellent. The atmosphere can get a little crowded, but the décor is beautiful and creates a nice dining experience.

Lovely umeshu spot in Bangkok with a wide selection, spacious seating, and warm attentive service. Perfect for casual nights out or gatherings with friends. Great drinks, good vibes, and plenty of room to relax!
