The Island Bangkok – Top Rated Thai Restaurant & Bar

I got scammed into eating here by the 4,9 star rating at almost 13k reviews. It was meant to be a special birthday meal for my husband. We traveled across town just to eat here. Came mid afternoon for a very late lunch. The place was basically empty, so no wait time. The waiter/waitress was super sweet and attentive. That was about the best thing about our experience at this place. The smoothies were alright and so were the tempura shrimps. The restaurant does put effort into presenting the food well which is deceiving - cause it doesn’t taste half as good as it looks. I had a green curry with duck and pineapple. I’ve had hundreds of green curries in Thailand over the years and this was not very nice tasting + the consistency was on the gooey side. They were generous with the pieces of duck. However, the lamb was well overdone and chewy. The biggest disappointment was my husband’s T-bone steak. It was covered in a weird tasting sauce. He asked for medium rare and it came super well done. The meat tasted as if it had been sitting in the fridge for ages…just old and very very chewy. He didn’t even eat half of it. The potatoes were extremely oily and only half cooked on the inside. The garlic bread was stale and dusty. The whole meal was just one big let down. We’ve had excellent, authentic, heavenly delicious meals for less than half the price we paid here. Again, such a shame as it was meant to be a special birthday meal.

A really nice, solid breakfast spot, even if the 4.9 rating had me a bit skeptical at first! The Setup: Caught a table straight away for breakfast in the lovely weather. Ordered 1 mango smoothie, 1 breakfast sandwich, and 1 fruit bowl. Total spent was 320 Baht (~£7). What stood out: ✅ The Service: The staff here are lovely and very welcoming. Great service all around, and our order came out quite quickly. 🔥 The Experience: A beautiful location with good food quality overall. The fruit in the bowl was perfectly ripe and splendid, and the breakfast sandwich hit the spot. It might not completely blow you away for a simple breakfast, but other meals might differ and it is a really nice place. 🙌 The Portion/Value: 8.4/10 - Good portions and very fair prices for a lovely, comfortable setting. The Verdict: Highly recommend if you are looking for a reliable, relaxing breakfast and great hospitality in the area.

I ate here twice. I’m giving it 4 stars because my second visit was a great experience, and the waiter was amazing. However, my first visit wasn’t nearly as good, as the staff seemed cold and annoyed. The same applied to the food. The second time, I had the cashew chicken with a beer and a pink milk drink, and everything was delicious. However, the first time I ordered Tom Kha Gai, and it wasn’t tasty at all. The chicken was very chewy. The biggest upside was that the food was very cheap here.

The Island Bangkok completely blew us away! The atmosphere was incredible, the food was absolutely delicious, and the entire vibe was spot on. What really made our experience unforgettable, though, was our server, Sky. Sky went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of—attentive, super friendly, and provided top-tier recommendations that were a hit. Excellent service like that is hard to find, and it completely elevated our night.

The cafe was so cute and the staff was so friendly. Shine our server was so helpful and attentive and very sweet. We had the Samosas and the vegetable tempura. I would def recommend the samosas. The drinks were good too!
