The Shrimp Daddy

Was craving the “boiling crab” experience that’s harder to come by in Taiwan and found this place on Instagram. Here’s the breakdown of our experience: Food/flavor 7.5/10: we got the combo A with the whole shebang sauce none spicy. The bucket could definitely use more sauce as it was lightly tossed so we asked for more and got it without extra charge- highly recommend asking for extra sauce for the flavor boost. Could definitely use more lemon/lime to cut down on the grease- you had to ask for it and get a wedge per ask. Flavor of the sauce was 9/10- the extras on the side brought it there- the ones already tossed were not very strong most likely to accommodate local flavor profiles. Drinks- got the Arnold palmer pitcher 8/10- dinner date did mention the lemonade flavor wasn’t strong enough. The shrimps were plump and fresh, mussels were decent. The clams got cold real quick was okay. The sausage was sliced too thin and the corn wasn’t the sweet yellow variety so didn’t taste very sweet or like anything at all unless you dunk it in the sauce. Fried oysters were very Taiwanese style. Was a good fry but in the local context of a fried oyster experience. Complementary corn + chips was interesting. Vibe- the wall art and name is super catchy but felt like the decor could use a bit more intension in creating the exciting Cajun shrimp broil vibe to bring a bit more excitement and storytelling to the guests. Service- was decent, mostly Chinese speaking, very responsive to our asks- sauce, straws, etc. 8.5/10 Overall a decent experience for Cajun shrimp broil in Taipei- might not be 100% the real thing but the sauce brings it close enough to scratch the itch.

Absolutely horrendous! Sauce tasted like mud, sand in the scallops, and the lobster tasted off. The soup was a lukewarm mess, and the side of fries were mealy and practically undercooked. Honestly, you’re better off making your own boiling crab at home 🙄.

Overall the food was delicious. The flavors were amazing and everything was cooked perfectly. I would recommend the lobster over the king crab but that’s just my preference. Overall I will come back!

For all the Americans who are seeking Cajun food: come in knowing this place is Taiwan-ified as most foreign food is in Taiwan. The seafood and sauce are good just know the flavor tastes Taiwanese especially the oysters (ordered a la carte). It feels like they’re trying but don’t know what Cajun means. The platter comes with rice. If you like Cajun sausages this place isn’t the place to go (the slices are way too thin and not juicy) and the corn isn’t sweet corn. The chips and dip came with a cup of corn soup and the Arnold Palmer is tea with slices of lemon (no lemonade). The atmosphere is trying to be US small town seafood joint vibe but the music is a little too pop-y. Pro tip: Ask for more sauce. Verdict: this spot scratches the Cajun itch in Taiwan but come in with an open mind

Overall this place was a mix feeling. There is no doubt about its authenticity of the flavoring and taste of the food. On the upside the gumbo shrimp rice and seafood platter were all very delicious. On the downside the baked clam was mediocre. The meal was a bit on the pricey side. However I will go again to try the crab legs and fried chicken sandwich :)
