VG the Seafood Bar, Taipei

Wow. Hey toy Michelin reviewers - this deserves a Bib Gourmand for the dessert if nothing else. It’s in my top 5 memorable finishes (not counting my wife ;). You will not be disappointed. Heck come here just for the dessert. Awesome.

Waited more than 1 hour and 15 minutes for my main dishes to arrive. Which was considered extremely long. Didn't have much appetite due to the long wait so we didn't get to savour the food properly. I have went to many high end restaurants in the world and I think this was the first time I've waited so long for the food. For the price that I was paying I was expecting much more. They did give me non-alcoholic wine on the house to make up for their delay. But it just felt weird drinking it as I was already drinking wine (with alcohol). I did try to cancel the main dishes after I waited for more than an hour but I'm glad I didn't. Enough of the negatives and let's move onto the positives. I ordered their scallop with miso as an appetizer. This dish was extremely tasty. And the miso base gave the dish a strong umami effect. As the main dishes, we ordered the iberico pork and steak. The pork was done so well that I felt that I was eating a steak from a Michelin steak house. That was how good it was. Tender, not overcooked and charred at the right areas. I even finished up all the side vegetables as that was equally good as well. My girlfriend finished up only half the steak as she didn't have any appetite due to the long wait. I did taste the steak and the steak could give Mortons a run for their money. Service was good and the servers were extremely apologetic for the food delay. Overall, I would definitely return again as I travel to Taiwan once every two months. I just hope that they will improve the waiting time for the food as I believe that they were severely understaffed last Friday.

Outstanding cocktail experience at VG The Seafood Bar! We’re visiting from the USA and came specifically for the cocktails after reading about them in a travel guide - they absolutely lived up to the hype. Les, the bartender, has created an incredible “treasure map” of creative drinks from around the world, with both signature cocktails and rotating monthly specials that showcase real artistry. The food was excellent too - the seafood tower, fries, salad, and bread were all delicious. The staff throughout were fantastic and made us feel very welcome. But the cocktails are truly the star here. Les is an engaging young bartender who clearly has a passion for his craft. If you’re looking for creative, expertly-crafted cocktails in Taipei, this is a must-visit spot.

The restaurant is located in Da'an District, a trendy and lively area of Taipei. The interior is cozy and elegant, with a large bar counter and a few tables. The staff are attentive and polite, and they can explain the menu and the wine pairing in English or Mandarin. The menu changes according to the season and the availability of the ingredients. the presentation and taste are exquisite and delicious. If you are looking for fine-dining fresh seafood experience in Taipei that you don't want to miss.

The food tasted good, but the service was so poor that we'd never revisit. The servers didn't check the need of the customers and only came to the table to serve dishes. During the meal many times when we ran out of drinking water, we had to walk to the kitchen to ask for it. Similar for the case of replacing used plates with clean plates, we had to interrupt the chatting and laughing servers so as to get what we needed... In addition, the restaurant should have been aware that we were sharing the main courses rather than one for each person, for we communicated with them the day before. However, they served all the main courses in large plates at once. Hence the table suddenly became so crowded that we could hardly divide the dishes. We ended up sharing one dish at a time, which made the food cold. Last but not least, it was mentioned during the reservation that the meal was for birthday celebration. Nevertheless, not even a blessing was provided, not to mention those described in previous reviews. In the end we all had such bad experience that we regretted to spend around NTD1800 per person for this meal.
